Junior’s Top Their Championship Group

St Margaret’s 1-10 St Marys Saggart 1-07

What a great weekend for the club. After an inspiring win by the Inters on Saturday evening the Juniors went into their must win game against St Mary’s Saggart full of confidence.

We got off to a great start with 4 unanswered points. St Marys as expected responded but came up against a well controlled and disciplined defence that kept them at bay. St Margeret’s lead by 0-07 to 0-04 at the break. St Mary’s started the second half stronger and closed the deficit. Just a few mins before the second half water break St Margaret’s were reduced to 14 men due to a “sin bin” offence.

St Mary’s rallied and scored a goal to give them a one point lead at that break. St Margaret’s still had 5 mins to endure before they would return the full complement of players. Massive credit to the 14 lads for keeping us in the game during that 10 min spell. For a second game running in the championship the impact from the bench was excellent. Richie Rooney scored a cracking point and Tom Flood turned over the ball late on which led to Drew’s goal that eased tensions for the remaining few minutes of the match.

We just want to give recognition to the extended panel especially the lads that didn’t get game time. These lads train hard every session and push each other each and every time. No doubt when called upon as we progress through the competition they will be ready for action.

Scores: James O’Connor 0-05(5 frees), Drew Barnwell 1-02, Richie Monks 0-01, Adam Kennedy 0-01, Richie Rooney 0-01

St Margaret’s: James Kennedy, Tucker Daly, David Martin, Ronan Howard, Gazz Hickey, Neil McGuirk, Adam Kennedy, Gearod Farrell, Dean Fox, Jack Walsh, Richie Monks, Conor Howard, James O’Connor, Drew Barnwell, David Reilly.

Sub Used: Tom Flood, Paul Lumley, Richie Rooney, Shane Sutton.

We await the draw for the Quarter Final. Thanks to everyone for the support at the game.
