Do you want to get moving and active this New Year, but you have nowhere to go? Do you find it hard to find a safe and well-lit area to go for a walk during the dark winter months? Well, St Margaret’s GAA have the answer!
We are delighted to get on board and partake in this year’s ‘Ireland Lights Up‘ initiative. More than 150 clubs across the country participated in this initiative last year. Every Monday from the 17th January – 21st February, St Margaret’s GAA will be open and lit up for you, your family and friends to come and walk from 7pm to 9pm.
- Week 1 – Thursday Jan 17th 2019
- Week 2 – Thursday Jan 24th 2019
- Week 3 – Thursday Jan 31st 2019
- Week 4 – Thursday Feb 7th 2019
- Week 5 – Thursday Feb 14th 2019
- Week 6 – Thursday Feb 21st 2019
The GAA, in partnership with RTÉ’s Operation Transformation, and supported by Healthy Ireland and Get Ireland Walking, hope to bring together communities across the 32 counties to enjoy healthy walks in the safe environs of their own GAA club.
As part of ‘Ireland Lights Up‘, all participating clubs will turn on their floodlights and open up their clubs at 7pm each Monday for six weeks (January 17th to February 21st).
Our clubs participant numbers will be given to RTÉ’s Operation Transformation team each week and the accumulative numbers will be aired live on the show the following Thursday. This is to ensure we can establish final numbers each week and evaluate the success of ‘Ireland Lights Up’.
We want everyone to come and join for Ireland Lights up 2019! All are welcome to come to these events!
St Margarets GAA have included all documents for this initiative in a ‘Downloads‘ area off our new ‘Health‘ section and we’ll use this section to add any more information and downloads you’ll need over the coming months. Our participation in Ireland Lights Up is the start of our club pushing health & well-being initiatives to our members so watch this space closely.
